Pantyhose, must-have for many women, are often easy to rip and ruin. Ladies need to buy them often to replace old ones. If only there were unbreakable ones. Except that there are. Sheertex, a company founded by Katherine Homuth in Ontario, has used a type of polymer fiber to make sheers. The fiber is exceptionally strong and typically used in bulletproof vests. Much technology development has been done to make it work. The polymer initially available was white and too thick. The company found additional fibers to add color and elasticity into the products. Not surprisingly, the sheers are relatively pricey. The products are breathable, lightweight and flexible. In addition, they resist snag and abrasion. While regular nylon pantyhose rip after a couple of wears, Sheertex’s sheers last up to 50.

Mentioned: among the best inventions of the year by Time
Purpose
Make pantyhose much stronger and rip-free
Idea
Use an extremely strong polymer fiber which is used in a totally different industry (bulletproof vest).
Further Possibilities
1. Use the strong and elastic material to make bags or containers
2. Use the strong and elastic material to make clothes, gloves and shoes
3. Use the strong and elastic material to make car seat covers
4. Use the strong and elastic material to make prosthetic implant
5. Use the strong and elastic material in machine parts
Questions
1. What are all the things that need to be stronger?
2. What might be all the ways to make bulletproof vests lighter and cheaper?
3. What might be all the ways to 3D-print strong fibers?
