During the lockdowns in the pandemic, many parents wished that their little ones had some companion, and better yet a teacher at home. Roybi Robot is a smart toy and tutor for children from the age of 3 to 7. Connected to the Internet, it can play songs, tell stories, and play lessons. The educational content covers 70 subject categories in language, science, math, technology and so on. A major purpose of the toy is to facilitate learning at a child’s own pace and focus. The robot recognizes a child’s speech and even emotions through facial expression detection. With machine learning, the lessons are adjusted based on a child’s learning style and preferences. A mobile app is used to track and manage the lessons and progress of the learning. For example, the robot teaches children to say sentences and then records pronunciation scores. The parents can use the app to replay the child’s favorite lessons and stories. The education robot is making learning more personalized, trackable and fun.
