E vehicle

The California Air Resources Board is a regulatory body under the California EPA. According to a report by Kathleen Ronayne at Associated Press, on August 25, the board decided that all new cars, pickup trucks and SUVs need to be electric or hydrogen by 2035. Since about 40% of the greenhouse gas emission in the state comes from transportation, the move is consequential in fighting pollution and climate change. Similar mandates are considered or already passed in the European Parliament, Canada, Washington state, and Massachusetts. One of the challenges in the transition is the lack of public chargers. The California Energy Commission estimated that 1.2 million chargers will be needed by 2030: a big increase from the current number of around 80,000.

Why it matters: The Californian auto market alone takes up 10% of the national market.

Further Possibilities

1. A car repair service focused on electric vehicles
Repairing EVs is different from repairing traditional vehicles.

2. A service that helps build charging stations
A lot of them are needed, soon.

3. Develop new apps for electric vehicles
EVs may become the next personal digital hub.
